Getting to know…ChamberMary

Name? Mary Margaret Satterfield
What do you do here exactly? Director of Events – more specifically I do Toad Suck Daze, Business Expo, and other events. Currently, I do the Member2Member and Newsletter emails (however ChamberWhitney is about to start that) and soon I will be the contact for using the Chamber meeting rooms.
How long have you worked at the Chamber? I started in 2002, so in February it will be 8 years. Man how time flies!
If you didn’t live here, where would you like to live? I would probably be in Baton Rouge or New Orleans; I almost stayed there after school. But I would love to live in Washington DC or Southern California – as long as I didn’t have to drive in either location!
Who are your favorite characters in history? As a kid I was really into the story of Anastasia. Now I am more into time periods than actual people, but if I had to choose people it would be either English Royalty in the 1700s or anyone involved in the Great Depression or Civil Rights Movement.
Your most marked characteristic? I usually tend to look on the positive side of things. I like the saying “Look on the bright side”
What is your biggest flaw? ChamberChad would say it is my messy office but I promise it is organized! I think that I probably sometimes take on too much at one time, trying to be in control of all that is going on with different events without asking for help. I mean it usually works out OK, but I end up pretty stressed and then I don’t look on the bright side of things.
What natural talent would you most like to possess? Anything having to do with sports, I am really not good at sports, but I love to watch them. It would be fun to be able to play them too.
Have you ever won a prize in a contest? In 6th grade I won a creative writing contest. I also almost always get participant ribbons, and that is pretty much like winning a prize, right? At least you get something J
What do you spend most of your money on? Technically bills, but the majority of my fun spending is eating out with the Chamber peeps and friends or getting new things for my house.
Is there anything in your past that you’d like to try again? I would like to go to the Olympics again. I went to Sydney in 2000 for a class and got to do really fun things like go behind the scenes and meet the organizers, athletes, and sponsors. But I only got to go to two or three events. I would do it again and go to all the events.
What’s something that can always make you feel better? Chocolate Chip Cookies and a Diet Coke with good ice (like Sonic or Stoby ice)
Favorite month? I really like December because it is festive and most people are in good moods and there are lots of parties, but I like October too because of Halloween and it smells good.
Have you ever worked in a restaurant? Where? Not unless you count a gas station deli as a restaurant.
Who and where was the last concert you went to? I can’t remember, probably George Strait a couple years ago. I always get really excited about the concerts at Toad Suck Daze, and then I don’t get to hear any of them because I get busy.
When is the last time you went to a party? About a week ago
When is the next time you’ll hit up a club? I’m not much of a clubber, but I am sure I will hit one up the end of this month at my cousin’s bachelorette party.
If you had to eat one thing for the rest of your life, what? I could probably eat French Fries everyday forever!
What is your least favorite food? Any cooked fruit or cooked tomatoes, and yes that does mean Apple Pie.
What’s one place you’ve never been but would like to visit? Hawaii
What are three things you would like to do you have not yet done? Get my Masters in Tourism with a concentration in Event Planning, go on a cruise, and be a parent.
When was the last time you hand washed the dishes? Last night. I have this thing about my good pots and pans; I don’t put them in the dishwasher. Good thing I don’t cook a whole lot!
Ever toilet papered someone’s house? Yes
If you won $10 million dollars what would you do with it? Surprisingly I have answered this question a lot and I have really worked out my answer. First, college funds for nephews, friend’s kids, and kids I will have in future. Second, bills and house paid off and a new car. Third, a really good party for all my friends. I figure that will take about 2 million – did I tell you how good of a party it will be! The rest will start a foundation/endowment of some kind in memory of my grandparents – both sides – Baker and Satterfield.
Are you named after a grandparent? No, but my initials are the same as granddad.
What’s something you’re scared of? Zombies
What was your favorite game as a kid? Cross-Up Poker. Great game that is no longer made.
