If I had a hammer…

Over here at TCL.com (that’s what the cool kids call it these days) we like nothing more than bringing new perspective and information to our loyal followers. How’s this for some mind-blowing economic news.
In the next 30 days, the people of Conway will see three construction projects worth over $80 million wrap up. Each project, on its own, would be the largest construction project in Conway’s history. To do this during the country’s worst recession in decades is incredible. To say we are blessed is an understatement.
Here is a rundown of the three megaprojects:
The University of Central Arkansas is building a new $18.5 million home for their College of Business. The building will total 75,000 sqare feet and features a 160 seat auditorium, 8 tiered classrooms, multiple computer labs and faculty offices. The building represents the largest construction project in UCA’s history.
Hendrix College is building a 71,200 square foot, $26 million Student Life and Technology Center that will become “the place where students gather to share ideas, practice leadership, master technology, and foster friendships.” This will be the first LEED certified construction project on the Hendrix Campus. It is also their largest single capital project.
The third and largest project is a $36 million, 150,000 square foot, LEED certified office building for Hewlett Packard. The building will be home to over 1,200 new jobs. The building is located in The Meadows Technology park and represents one of the largest economic development announcements in Arkansas history.
Fear not, the pipeline is not empty. The city is pursuing an incredible construction program (parks, trails, new streets), Southwestern Energy is building a facility that will employ 400+, Blue Cross Blue Shield breaks ground in the Tech park next year and we’ve got another phase of the Hendrix Village yet. Let’s keep the big equipment around another year.
